Common Essay 2.1 Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Basic 2.1 - Essay Example The show corridor seemed motivating to me containing pictures of extraordinary performers holding tight its dividers and having an alluring shading plan. Likewise, the stage was wide and well lit. The corridor was loaded with individuals trusting that the performer will play. The window ornament was sparkling splendidly and influencing gently in the breeze. I was going to play â€Å"Chopin Variation† by Rossini. Unexpectedly, the drape rose and I was struck by light. I played the piece distinctively and individuals had the option to associate with the tune. The praise resembled coming to up to the highest point of the mountain, practically overpowering, however so justified, despite all the trouble and their adulation was another method of reacting to my idea of music. My enthusiasm for music had taken me higher than ever and I was appreciative to my spirit. I have been constantly revived by music and it has been a pressure buster for me and a companion in all critical crossro ads. Music has allowed me a chance to work with numerous skilled individuals. What's more, presently, I feel edified that my ability is offering motivation to such a large number of individuals. Music is such a great amount of broke down in me that I have gone through consistently rehearsing. I buckle down on music, yet never feel tired of it. At the point when I hear any Debussy pieces, I overlook every one of my concerns and inconveniences and they carry quietness to me. I recollected the days in school, when I used to play music and every one of my friends and instructors adulated me. My energy for my music has urged me to learn a greater amount of it and look for development in it. I am so upbeat for understanding being an artist and the ingenuity and glory of this profession. That day at Woo Bong Art Hall, I wanted to see that on the grounds that the individuals in the lobby were in absolute euphoria. This inclination can't be contrasted and anything. It was in fact awesome. A sort of current went from my head to toe. As I completed my exhibition, individuals began to cheer and I was incredibly glad that individuals adored my piece. A few people moved over to the phase to grasp me and shower their endowments. I

Marriage Is A Wonderful Gift But Terrifying Responsibility

Marriage, it is a wonderful gift but terrifying responsibility. So then what is marriage? Article 7 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church for the The Sacrament of Matrimony states, The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament. If this is so then why do 50% of marriages fail in the first 3 years? What causes people to get married in the first place? Would it be better just to live with people you love and that be the end to it? These are all real concerns and†¦show more content†¦But when a couple is hit with problems or real world issues, unconditional love comes to play. Being fully committed to a person no matter the action or offense is hard and very difficult with unconditional love, but close to impossible without it. Some ask well how do you achieve Agape in a relationship? The Catholic Church puts it simply saying to go to the source of unconditional love, God himself. â€Å"Marriage is based on the consent of the contracting parties, that is, on their will to give themselves, each to the other, mutually and definitively, in order to live a covenant of faithful and fruitful love† The Catholic Church views marriage not just as a civil contract or agreement, but as a covenant. In a regular civil contract or agreement once the first party has broken the terms of agreement the second party may choose to break or end all further relationship with the first party. A covenant is a type of agreement, that can’t be broken no matter the offense each party makes. So from the Catholic Church’s perspective ending a marriage is impossible, once a union has been made it can’t be undone or destroyed; marriage is permanent. Now after I say this many think, â€Å"Wait what about an annulment?† that ends a marriage doesn t it? That is only partially right. It doesn t end a marriage but simply states that the marriage was invalid or never truly existed in the first place. To understand this you have to

Commercial Establishment Electric or Manual Apparatus

Question: Discuss about the Commercial Establishment for Electric or Manual Apparatus. Answer: Introduction Heating system is an electric or manual apparatus or means that is used to warm up a house or commercial establishment. Heating systems are a must for every house in colder regions on earth. While, these are used only during winters in other places. Heating systems are also used in commercial establishments to warm up the place for its clients during winters. Another use of heating systems is in industries where a few items might be required to be stored only in warm temperatures. There are a variety of eating systems available today as per the heating requirements. These are broadly classified as two categories 1- Space heating, 2- Central heating. As the name suggests space heating systems are used only to warm up a limited space or small area/region. There are ideal for smaller houses to warm up a particular room or area like living area. Their heating capacity is very limited and dont suit for larger spaces. Few examples of space heating systems are Ductless Heat Pump, Fireplace, Electric baseboard and Wood Stove etc. Central heating systems, on other hand, are suitable for warming up larger area. These heating systems have very high capacity. This can be used to warm up an entire house, bigger halls etc. As its name suggests here heat is generated at a central facility and then distributed to the entire space to be warmed up. Head distribution can be achieved either by using air or water as heat distribution medium. In last few years heating systems have become very sophisticated. With a variety of control options for the users they have become very convenient and safe to use. Control systems for the heating solutions have become very important aspect for its users. As user basically use control system only, to operate and engage with the heating systems. This paper makes an effort to plan and design a smart heating system control unit. This will be designed keeping convenient of use as the main idea behind it. This will also be based on the principal on which human interacts with computers so that it serves it purpose i.e. efficient manage and control of the heating system effectively and conveniently. Design Overview Gone are the days when heating systems used to be as simple as just lighting up a few woods. Heating systems have come a long way since. Its uses have also increased multiform, today its used for a variety of purposes. Modern heating systems are very complicated and work on very complex underlying technology. Heating systems control interface, however, should not be as complex as its underlying technology. As while the technology behind the heating system is taken care of by the experts and the users of these systems usually never have to bother about it, its the control interface that they need to use every day. Heating systems control interface is being designed keeping in mind all the functions and features of the heating system. Users should be able to tweak all the parameter and use all the functions of the system. At the same time, this should be user friendly and easy to use. It should also be intuitive. This should be compatible with all types of the heating system available in the market today. And, its pricing should be optimal for the masses to adopt this. Objectives of design Heating systems control interface should be effective enough to use all the functions of the heating system yet it should be simple and convenient to use. Along with these basic objectives, it should also meet following few criteria as well: Control panel screen should have wide angle display and should be bright enough to be operated under bright light as well. All buttons, hardware or soft buttons on its screen, should be appropriately labeled and should be easy to recognize for its purpose. names It should also be receptive to the feedbacks and user should be able to customize controls as per their convenient. Should be easy to comprehend or easy to operate without users making too much efforts to learn to operate it. It should be completely user friendly and user should have complete customization options for the heating systems and the control system as well. Scope Scopes of this paper is to plan, design, and test and finalizes a control panel that can be used with any heating system. This is limited only to designing of the user interface which will be used to control the system. This doesnt include any hardware development or selection of any internal component. Project vision The vision of the paper is to develop a user interface for the thermostat control panel which should be a perfect solution for all heating systems in the market. Design Process Stage 1: Heating systems control systems available in the market will be studied and researched for its features and functions. Stage 2: All of the desired features of the existing control systems will be shortlisted to be incorporated in this control system. Other desired features will also be zeroed upon; and will be part of the designed control system. Touch screen of the control system will be of standard size of 4*6 Stage 3: An actual interface would be prepared with the help of appropriate mock up tool for the purpose of testing of the early/evaluation model of the control panel. Stage 4: Designed early/evaluation model will be tested on the mock up testing environment created in last stage. Stage 5: Basis of the testing carried in last stage final design of features of the control panel will be prepared. User Requirements and objectives Requirement Objective Considerations Easy Temperature Control Temperature control is the first and foremost requirement of a control panel for Heating system Provide an easy to control and intuitive temperature control option. There should also be an option to vary the temperature of particular zones as well as for entire house Quick Temperature Adjustments There should also be option for the users of pre-defined temperature settings. That can be easily selected by the user Provide an option to set a few favorite temperature settings. These presetting can be easily selected at the time of starting the heating system or anytime during its operation. Pre-set Temperature Controls Users should have options to plan and set the variable temperature for different hours. Like heating may be high during night or low during the day. Other options like gradual decrease/increase of temperature of a particular zone or entire house, after turning the heating system on Provide an option for detailed temperature settings for the different zones or for entire house with the help of smart variables Automatic Temperature Adjustments Heating system should automatically detect the outside temperature and automatically vary or adjust inside temperature. Provide a feature for sensor based automatic temperature control options for the user. This will be like auto-pilot option that user will be able to select or deselect any time. Easy and robust switch on/off and There should be an easy switch on/off option for the temperature control device and for the heating system as well. There should also me a manual button for factory reset Provide a single button to turn on/off the device. It should clearly reflect the current state of the button i.e. if the system is turned on it should clearly indicate this and same for system off state. This button should be kept and designed different from other buttons. As other buttons will need to be pressed multiple times while system is ON but this need not be used during operations. Factory Reset Options There should be a separate and easily identified manual factory reset button for reset all the setting to the default levels Provide a hard factory reset button. This should be carefully designed to avoid accidental pressing of the button. This can be a combination of 2 buttons. Both pressed simultaneously for 5 seconds will bring the settings to it default levels. Hard Controls and Buttons There should be minimal hard buttons. All controls should be through soft buttons on the control panels screen Provide very few hard/manual buttons only for the few select options like switching on/off function. Rest all functions or adjustments will be through soft buttons on the control panels screen Smart and intuitive user interactions Control panel interactions should be in tandem with the modern hand held devices such as tablets or smartphones Unser interaction with the control system ought to be a lot like operating mobile phones. Screen layout has been designed taking inspiration from the android operating system. There will be different cards for different zones in the house. Different cards are stacked horizontally on the screen and can be accessed by swiping left or right on the screen. Main card i.e. the 1st card on the left basically gives an overview of the complete house and the current information regarding temperatures. This may include temperature outside and inside for each zones. This will also give other information like humidity level maintained in the house or outside humidity, energy consumed for select period, no of zones regulated by the system. Other cards to the right are for various zones in the house. These cards can be acce ssed by swiping right on the screen and then can be operated by activating the on screen buttons by double tap on the screen. Cards header color is intelligently designed to reflect the temperature the particular zone associated with it. Colors hue temperature would vary according to the temperature set for the zone. By sliding up or down on the screen user will be able to increase or reduce the temperature of the zone to the desired level. There is also a help button on each tab to help users with any issues. There are also options to set the temperature control to manual or automatic mode. Also, every card has three different modes option to choose from. These modes are 1) Automatic 2) Custom and 3) Quick mode. In automatic mode it will auto detect the outside temperature using the sensor and will adjust the inside temperature accordingly i.e. temperature control is completely left to the smart auto pilot mode. In manual control mode, temperature levels needs to be selected as pe r the requirement and needs to be adjusted manually every time user want to change the temperature. In quick mode user can select from any of the pre defined temperature levels and system will automatically work towards it. Assumptions It has been assumed that related resources like software required or needed for the designing the interface would be available conveniently. These software would include Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, CAD etc. Other needed hardwares are also available instantly and adequately for use during designing of the control system. These hardware may include Wacom tablet, Printer, workstations, internal parts, external body etc. Another assumption that has been made is the all required specialist teams are in place for the designing of the control panel. i.e. there are adequate human resources available for executing this. These teams or persons may include engineers, consultants, project handling team, designers etc. Apart from all technical resources all non-technical resources are also assumed to be available. These are as important to begin or execute the project. These non-technical resources may include communication plan and facilities, sponsors etc. It is also assumed that there will be no change in the projects requirement over period of time i.e. projects goal will remain same throughout the designing of control panel. All external factors, micro or macro, are also assumed to be constant throughout the planning, execution or post development of the project. These factors would include economic condition, government policies, raw material handling etc. Most of these are not in our control and might affect the project execution severely is there is any changes in it. While the control system is being planned and designed to be used along with all or most available heating system. It has been assumed that heating system doesnt go a paradigm change. There is no change in the underlying principle it is based on. Or there is no breakthrough project released to outdate the existing heating systems. Also, assumed is that there won't be any substantial risk or issue like demise of a key member which migh affect the project completions. Success criteria Success criteria Justification The interface should possess all the functionalities of the thermostat. Users will be able to use the features just like a real thermostat. Users are able to use the thermostat without any human assistance. Interface should be easy to use and is having low learning curve Assessment of the control panel The designed and completed control panel will be assessed for its effectiveness and for its relevance to its exact purpose. It will also be assessed for its user friendliness, aesthetics, usability etc. with the help of appropriate available evaluation methodologies. It will be evaluated on following parameters for its effectiveness and other desired qualities: Interface will be tested for its user friendliness and for its simplicity It will also be checked whether it gives right and relevant user feedbacks Its navigation system will also be checked and evaluated. Due to a variety of possible users and situations it will also be evaluated for various group people and various situations as well. System evaluation would be carried in simulated real life scenario on one to one basis. Users or testing agents will have to perform a variety of pre-defined tasks under the supervision of the expert. Test results will be collected and evaluated by the experts. Any feedbacks or concerns will be addressed to improvise the design. Following lasts or tests will be performed individually or in combination for evaluation of the designed control panel: Xs and Os- It is a comparatively simple testing. It provides outputs which are different from the outputs of the other testing. Under this testing users are required to use the functions or elements which they are comfortable with and are also asked to identify the functions or elements which they are not comfortable of or dont want to use. These functions are them improvised to make it more user friendly or effective. Path Analysis- Under Path analysis evaluation method users are asked to work upon the product. And, experts follow and reconstruct the path user takes when they are working with the product or system. This charted or recorded path are then analyzed evaluate concern areas where users struggled, took time, got confused to or simply struggled to operate or function. These concern ares are then worked upon and rectified. Think aloud testing- Its a kind of testing for the product or systems usability level. Here user or individual taking the test are asked to perform a predefined set of activities. While an expert or observer evaluates users actions and takes notes assigns scores basis various parameters. At the end of the test users are asked for their in detail feedback regarding his/her experience, problems they faced or areas they want to be improved or functions they want to be changed. Think aloud testing provides a very fine understanding of the systems effectiveness and limitations. References Shan, M. Seuken, S. (2007). Robinson Crusoe

Robinson Crusoe can be viewed as a classical example of the eighteenth century novel because of the themes that the author explores and the form that this literary work takes. In particular, one can argue that Daniel Defoe explores such issues as individualism and the role of Protestantism in the life of a person.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Robinson Crusoe specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Furthermore, the writer prefers realistic description of the main character. Moreover, this novel is presented in the form of autobiography which is also a characteristic of the eighteenth century literature. Furthermore, one can say that this book is a powerful story of a person who is forced to display his best qualities in order to survive. First, it should be mention that this novel emphasizes the importance of individualism and self-sufficiency of a person. At the beginning, the protagonist dreads the idea of being com pletely isolated from the rest of the world. However, later he is able to reconcile himself with this thought. He says, â€Å"it was possible I might be more happy in this solitary condition than I should have been in a liberty of society, and in all the pleasures of the world† (Defoe 20). To a great extent, this situation gives him an opportunity to discover some of his best qualities. Moreover, this work throws light on several principles of Protestantism. First of all, one should mention that this movement rejects the idea of luxury and sensuality. In turn, Robinson Crusoe also mentions the things that he does not need, namely, â€Å"pride, ambition, avarice, and luxury† (Defoe 200). Moreover, labor is essential for the protagonist because it enables him to retain his humanity. To some degree, this is an example of Protestant work ethics. Furthermore, it is important to focus the way in which Daniel Defoe describes the events of the novel. One can say that he prefer s the tradition of realism which only began to emerge in the eighteenth century. For example, the author provides very detailed description of Crusoe’s attempts to sustain himself on the desolate island. In particular, the readers can see how difficult it is for the protagonist to construct a boat or grow food. In this way, the author wants to show that individualism is closely related to painstaking labor and hardships.Advertising Looking for essay on british literature? Let's see if we can help you! Such literary technique was very widespread in the eighteenth century. Robinson Crusoe can be regarded as one of epistolary novels along with such works as Clarissa and Pamela written by Samuel Richardson (Spacks 107). This approach enables the writer to explore the inner world of the main character s. Yet, Robinson Crusoe differs from these novels, because unlike other authors, Daniel Defoe pays much more attention to the realistic description of the main events. These are the main aspects that can be identified. Although, Robinson Crusoe has the characteristics of a conventional eighteenth century novel, this works produces a power impression of the readers. By looking at a person, who is left to his own device, Defoe is able to create a powerful story of hardship and struggle. This novel explores such issues as individuality and religion and it shows how the values of the eighteenth century people were shaped. Overall, this novel provides a realistic description of a person’s struggle at the time of difficulty. Works Cited Defoe, Daniel. Robinson Crusoe, London: Windmill Books, 2009. Print. Rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) is the vi Essays

Rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) is the vi Essays Rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) is the vision of Dr. Albert Ellis. Dr. Ellis, 1913 - 2007, received his masters and doctorate from Columbia University in psychology . Dr. Ellis is no stranger to mental illness nor the effects that mental illness on the family unit. Dr. Ellis's described his mother as "self-absorbed with bi-polar disorder" and his father as "emotionless and distant" . Dr. Ellis parent's inattention positioned him in the role of primary caregiver for his younger brother and sister despite his fragility. Dr. Ellis reported being hospitalized eight times between the ages of five and seven . Despite his shortage of parental support, Ellis did not permit his adversities to alter his disposition. Like most psychologists, Dr. Ellis's early training originated with psychoanalytic perspective. The techniques and focus of psychoanalytic theory left many unanswered questions for Ellis on efficacy and scientific premise on psychoanalytic therapy . Dr. Ellis believed that therapy should have scientific foundation to increase the validity of psychotherapy (Ellis, 1999). During his early career, Ellis critiqued the validity and reliability of personality tests concluding that the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory was the only valid instrument based on research . During the early portion of his career, Ellis utilized psychoanalytic techniques with his clients despite the lingering questions he possessed on efficacy and scientific premise. He sought a more effective interactive alternative means aid his clients. This initiated his pursuit for new methods and techniques focused on efficacy. Ellis noticed that most of his clients labeled as neurotic shared irrational thinking . Ellis observed most individuals are aware of their irrational thoughts but continue to maintain the irrational thoughts even though they are unreasonable . Focusing on irrational thinking, Ellis combined psychoanalytic and behavioral methodologies to form rational therapy . Rational thinking is subjective. What one person considers rational, another may consider irrational. Ellis defines rational as effective cognition. The problem with RT was RT implied rational thinking as logical cognition so Ellis elected to change the name to rational emotive therapy with aspirations of encompassing cognitive and emotive processes. Dr. Ellis changed rational therapy to rational emotive therapy in 1961 . Ellis believed a problem remained even after the name change, rational emotive therapy did not clearly indicate the relationship Ellis imagined. Ellis, again, changed the name in 1995 to rational emotive behavior therapy stressing the reciprocal collaboration between cognition, emotion, and behavior . The premise of REBT is it's not the unfortunate or traumatic event/action that causes increase emotion in individual's but it's the individuals beliefs that increases emotions . Rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) which stresses individuals have the capacity to become completely rational, which is innate due to biologically factors, implying most persons have the ability to construct rational wishes and preferences but free-will permits individuals to transfer their wishes and preferences into rigid doctrines . Ellis examined individual's environment, personality, and concluded that learned behaviors, the need to assimilate, and traumatic or unfortunate events help foster irrational thinking in individual's . We develop learned behaviors across our lifespan, which anchor our values, beliefs, morals, and goals. Some learned beliefs convert into "shoulds, oughts, and musts or SOM's" . When we convert our SOM's into needs, we create irrational dogmas. Ellis defined individuals presenting complaint(s) as irrational belief(s) about self, others, and the world (SOW) as the three musts' . Ellis categories the three musts' into three board must categories: "I must achieve outstandingly well in one or more important respects ; Other people must treat me fairly and well or they are bad people!"; "Conditions must be favorable or else my life is rotten and I can't stand it" . When any or all of the musts' statements apply, emotional and/or behavioral disturbances occur. REBT teaches individual's that SOM's are demands not needs and if SOM's are not received or acquired, the world will not end. For example, "If I can't play professional football, I will become an accountant" versus "If I can't play professional football, my life will be over." REBT emphasizes the separation of behavior from the person. For example, "I did a bad thing" rather than "I am a bad

Notes on Do - 10 Things You Can Do With the Verb Do

Notes on Do - 10 Things You Can Do With the Verb Do Think of the word do as the utility infielder in the game of grammar: it can be called on to play any one of several different positions in a sentence. The Shorter Oxford English Dictionary offers 36 definitions of the verb do (not counting  its uses in countless phrases) and seven definitions of the noun. Both a lexical verb and one of the three primary auxiliaries, do (along with the forms does, did, and done) is the third most frequently used verb in English. As an auxiliary (or helping verb), do is sometimes called an empty verb or a dummy operator because it has no meaning of its own. But do have some respect for this dummy. As well see, do stays busy, and wed have a tough time communicating without it. Idioms and CollocationsAs a lexical verb, do indicates action of some kind and often hooks up with nouns denoting more specific activities. Here are some common do and done expressions: do an about-face, do any good, do as I say, do away with, do blindfolded, do the dishes, do a double take, do homework, do the honors, do in, do a job on, do justice to, do no good, do or die, do out of, do over, do tell, do time, do the trick, do up, do well, do withoutdone deal, done for, done in, done to death, done to a turn, easier said than done, good as done, over and done with, whats done is done, when all is said and doneSubstitutionsDo also functions as a pro-verb, filling in for any number of other verbs. The expressions do so, do it, and do that commonly refer to actions that have previously been identified: If you want to fire me, please do so.I had put off mailing the application and finally decided just to do it.She thought Id left without telling anyone, but I would never do that. All three expressions serve as substitutes for other verbs (in these examples, go, mail, and leave). Do so tends to be a tad more formal than do it and do that. Multiple DosIts not unusual for more than one do to show up in a sentence. How do you do?What do you do for a living? How do you find time to do all that you do? (Without resorting to doo doo jokes or the chorus to Lou Reeds Walk On The Wild Side, see if you can outdo that last example.)Wh- QuestionsIn many questions that begin with a wh- word (who, what, when, where, why, and- oops- how), a form of do comes before the main verb: What do you want?Where did Cheeta put the bananas? When did follows a wh- word, its often contracted to /d/ in informal speech and written as d: Whered Cheeta put the bananas?Yes-No QuestionsWe can fashion a yes-no question by placing a form of do in front of the subject: Do you enjoy listening to lectures?Does anybody know what time it is?Did your sister go out this morning? The use of do in questions is called do-support or do-insertion.NegativesBy adding not (or the contraction nt) to do, does, or did, we can create a negative sentence: Many workaholics do not enjoy their jobs.Casper doesnt believe in ghosts.Nyla didnt like the cold weather. In a negative imperative with the copula be, do not (or dont) appears in front of be: Do not be afraid.Dont be so self conscious. As you can see, present and past endings become part of do and not part of the main verb that follows it. Tag QuestionsA question added to a declarative sentence to check or clarify information is called a tag question. Customarily, a negative declarative takes a positive tag question, while a positive declarative takes a negative tag: You dont trust me, do you?You do miss me, dont you? When theres no auxiliary verb in the main clause, a form of the dummy operator do is used in the tag: Your sister loves to play pranks, doesnt she?EmphasisIn declarative sentences, do, does, and did can be used for emphasis: You do need to be honest with your child.Despite what you think, I did enjoy the play. In speech, emphatic do is usually stressed.ImperativesThe emphatic do can show up at the beginning of an imperative sentence, usually to make it sound less abrupt: Do stop by when youre in the neighborhood. But notice that this do isnt always so friendly: Do shut up, Hyacinth. Truth be told, this version of the emphatic do probably occurs more often in 19th-century novels than in actual conversation s.In some cases, do can also replace the whole imperative: Ill see to it this evening, the lawyer said.Yes, please do, I said. Omissions in Comparative ClausesIn a comparative clause, we can use a form of do to avoid repeating part of the main clause: The Pritchetts work much harder than we do.Gloria drives much faster than Jay does. In these examples, do is considered a stranded operatoran auxiliary that stands alone without a main verb alongside it. Is this the final word on do? Hardly. For one thing, theres the extraordinarily vague do in the Nike slogan  Just do it. For another theres the do in Frank Sinatras scat line Do-be do-be do. Then theres Fred Flintstones memorable  exclamation, Yabba Dabba Do! But before things get too silly, this will simply have to do.

Impact of the recent decision by the Supreme Court of the United Essay

Impact of the recent decision by the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) - Essay Example The first class action involved prisoners who had serious mental disorder (Coleman v. Brown), while the second class action involved prisoners who had serious medical conditions (Plata v. Brown). Release of Prisoners after many years of failed justice in large numbers, if the state did not get another way of complying with the order, is without doubt a matter of grave concern to the Californian people. The state argued that such violations could be reduced by new constructions and transferring prisoners out of the state, hiring more medical personnel and increased efforts by Coleman Special Master and Plata Receiver. The fast impact of the decision on Californian people is bankrupting the Californian state, (Anonymous 1053). This is because; remedial efforts of meeting medical requirements, food and shelter for prisoners who were highly populated could financially strain Californian sate, rendering it bankrupt. Building of new facilities and hiring of new staff. This is because plans of funding such plans had not yet been secured and while funding of other plans had been delayed.

A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O’Connor :: Essays on A Good Man Hard Find

In† A Good Man is Hard to Find† there are many factors that can be the theme. The theme can be about a family as a whole that lacks love for the grandmother, or about a family that goes on a trip that wound up having an accident, which puts them at the wrong place at the wrong time. Both of these themes are obvious to any reader, but it does not quite seem to match this author’s depth style way of writing. In a brief write up on Flannery O’Connor, it says â€Å"O’Connor is a moralist, she focuses an uncompromising moral eye on the violence and spiritual disorder of the world.† By knowing this about the author O’Connor we can look deeper into this story and find morals of two characters as the theme. The two characters are the Grandmother and the Misfit. Even though they are both different as night and day, they both have morals and stands by their morals no matter what.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Even though the Grandmother shows to be a victim of rudeness, hostile statements, and dangerous situations, she still stood by her morals regardless of the situations. In the first paragraph, the grandmother is a victim of her grandchildren and at the end, she is a victim of a murderer who ironically is much nicer to her than her own grandchildren! It is easily observed that the grandmother’s morals involve making her environment as pleasant as her personality. At the beginning, you can see how the grandchildren are making hostile comments towards the grandmother about going on the trip with them. As she sits in the back seat with the hostile children instead of allowing them to ruin her mood, she decides to point out the â€Å" interesting details of the scenery- stone mountain’s; the blue granite, the brilliant red clay banks slightly streaked with purple†Ã¢â‚¬ ¦. (pg 199). At the end while a victim of a murderer the grandmother still tried to make some good out of the situation. â€Å"Ain’t a cloud in the sky† he remarked. â€Å"Yes it is a beautiful day† said the grandmother. â€Å"Listen you shouldn’t call yourself misfit because I know you’re a good man at heart. I can just look at you and tell.† The grandmother said (pg 205). As stated earlier the grandmother was dedicated to keeping her moral of making her environment as pleasant as her personality!   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Although the Misfit is a â€Å"murderer†, he also has morals.

Agricultural Revolution of the 10th Century

This paper will look at the Agrarian revolution that occurred in 10th century and the resulting effects on the political, social, cultural and economic conditions in Europe.Agricultural revolution in Europe was a period where there was witness of sustained changes in the way people carried out their farming activities. It had to do with increased output of products and general changes in the methods of carrying out agricultural activities on farmland.  10th century Europe fell under the â€Å"Middle ages, an era when agricultural methods of production were mostly peasantry in nature. Most of the populations during the 10th century Europe were serfs who were employed by other people to work on their farmlands† (Chris, par. 2).There was no clear sub-division of land and the main tool farming was the ox drawn plow and the system of farming was the two field system. This was a system of farming where one field was cultivated while leaving the other one fallow so as to reclaim th e soil’s nutrients. Population growth during these ages was very low. This can be attributed to the poor methods of farming which led to low yields hence food insecurity.Agricultural revolution came about with the systematic changes in the methods of production. One major indicator of the revolution was through the consolidation of common land that led to introduction of individual ownership of those properties. Thus rights of ownership were created through the abolition of the open field system of cultivation. The plow as the main tool of cultivation underwent redesigning, and also, the two-field crop rotation was changed to a three- field, and hence these served as contributors to the increased food production that occurred. The Agricultural revolution that occurred at this time brought great impacts to the socio-economic conditions of Europe as a whole. One impact was increase in population, mostly in the towns. Individual ownership of land led to many people selling off the ir lands. The consequences were that there was increase in the number of people without land, but who were working as laborers for the big landowners. Others migrated to towns and thus contributed to rapid population growth.Furthermore adoption of better methods of farming led to increased food production and hence surplus production. This surplus production was then traded for other goods that were lacking. This served as the beginning of exchange of goods and services and also development of trading systems. The agricultural revolution also served as the main cause of change from feudalism to capitalism. Introduction of wage labour whereby landlords entered agreements with workers served as the springboard on which market economy fundamentals were established and power over the land which was appropriated by those who controlled it.Developments that resulted from the agricultural revolutions in terms of new towns, migrations and changes in land ownership necessitated changes in the political and cultural system of the people. There were changes from â€Å"feudalism as the most dominant form of political organization to formation of the nation-state† (Adriaan, par. 4). Development of ideas of sovereignty led to establishment of monarchies in countries like France and England which were seen as the reflection of civilization.â€Å"Moreover changes in the cultural mentality of the people were witnessed with the spread of renaissance ideas, diffusion of old ideas and the rise of secular attitudes in art, education and politics.† (par. 6).ConclusionThe agricultural revolution was a crucial event as far as mankind is concerned.   Interactions over time throughout man’s history that have brought about inventions and development of man’s civilization cannot be said to be complete without reference to the Agrarian revolution.Works CitedAdriaan Verhulst. â€Å".Medieval Socio-economic Historiography in Western Europe: Towards an Integrated Approach.† Journal of Medieval History. Jhumpa Lahiri’s â€Å"A Temporary Matter† and William Faulkner’s â€Å"A Rose for Emily† both speak to the universal human theme, love, by exploring how we often hurt most those we love most. Even the act of sharing their deepest untold secrets is in part a desperate last measure by two people who once loved each other to reestablish their relationship after a significant trauma. All these acts are heavily romantic, evoking sentiments of love, yet the last three already hint at the eventual destruction of their marriage. Going from living a great life with nothing wrong to being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, also known as PTSD, is a life changing event for anyone, but should veterans be treated differently from everyone else? Life of Ted Olsen was normal before he was knocked unconscious by a â€Å"massive garage door that jumped a track on base and crashed down on his head† and diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. Ted figured that his new hobby was the solution to releasing all of his emotions, so he stops taking his prescribed medicine. Soon, Ted began to daze off, hear voices, vandalize, and threaten his neighbors. AJ and Genie set up security cameras outside their house and caught Ted vandalizing their car. Consequences of Postmodernism in the Movie Free Essays

How the movie â€Å"American Psycho† relates to the post modern society of America in the 80†² IIS Postmodernism was first seen in the late nineteenth century, but after the second world war it was applied to people’s everyday life. â€Å"American Psycho† portraits the reality and consequences of postmodernism through the mysterious life of Patrick Bateman as the â€Å"American Psycho†. Patrick Bateman is the main character of the movie, and the whole world is seen through his eyes. We will write a custom essay sample on Consequences of Postmodernism in the Movie or any similar topic only for you Order Now The moral in the movie is that there are no morals, it is one big twisted game fighting for status. Patriot’s life comes focused on this goal through worshipping the surface through capitalistic, consumerist and narcissistic behavior. The â€Å"Business card† scene definitely displays that Patrick Bateman perceives the world as post modernistic. Nothing has meaning to it in Patriot’s mind, as ideologies, goodness and love. What Bateman can relate to are the materialistic aspects for example the business cards where it meaner everything to him to have the best card which is only an illusion of himself. Bateman and the phenomenon, postmodernism are the idea that nothing is real Just an illusion and that everything is a copy of something that’s already been duplicated. This movie has many different ways to look at it. Many have seen this movie and thought whether this is all real or if it’s Just his crazy twisted mind, making it all up. One thing we can agree on is the fact that Patrick Bateman is a mentally disturbed person. Maybe all this violence and blood displayed in this movie, are the feelings of the author towards the post modernistic society that we have and do live in, this is him showing his hatred towards it. This is why it is irrelevant whether it is real or not, t is this feeling the author has towards this twisted society that you must understand and to feel it you must see it in action. When societies redefine, the people also redefine this is the process we see in Batsman’s life. He is always thriving to redefine himself both through his physical body and through his materialistic belongings. This thriving for the idealistic image is the meaning of life for Patrick Bateman, all of his actions and thought are focused on redefining himself compared to the redefining society. Survival becomes a key point in this society. Bateman is trying to survive in his sick society. By surviving it meaner to keep up with all the materialistic ideologies of the perfect being. His survival for this we see when he does his regular morning exercise followed by a skin mask to the battle of business cards. One of postmodernists big aspects is the value given to the materialistic aspects of society, everything has lost its soul even people are described almost as if they were products. People are no longer Judged by their true selves but through what clothes they wear, what perfume they use and how much money they own. An example from he movie is the big importance of which restaurant to eat at. It is not whether the food is good, it is what image it represents to the surrounding people. Patrick Bateman is trying to sell himself all the time. He does this Just like you would advertise a bottle of coca-cola. He wants the surrounding people to associate him with the best restaurant, business card and even the look of his girlfriend. This is exactly how coca-cola tries to sell us this idea of happiness and fairytale world when you open a bottle of coca-cola, this they do through advertisements as we see it with Bateman, who becomes a product. Creating this image of yourself is pure postmodernism. The movie shows this to us in such a clear way though Patrick Bateman description of himself. â€Å"‘ have all the characteristics of a human being: blood, flesh, skin, hair; but not a single, clear, identifiable emotion, except for greed and disgust. † and â€Å"there is an idea of a Patrick Bateman; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me: only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable†¦ I simply am not there†. To understand this you must understand that the soul is your true being. Through postmodernism the soul dies due to always having to manipulate and create this illusory image of one self, but by doing this the soul is getting buried so deep beneath this image, that it is almost non-existing. The whole point of a post modernistic life is trying to create this perfect picture of yourself, instead of finding your true self by removing all mindsets and ideologies given to you by this manipulative society trying to give you ideologies, norms and rules that bury our soul. This movie is showing postmodernism at its finest. All values, ideologies and norms have vanished and now they are meaningless. In the end the only thing you can really reflect on is one self. Bateman is wandering around a materialistic â€Å"yuppie society†, where people are so concerned and busy with their outer, status and themselves, that they don’t see how gruesome and crazy Bateman really is. All the violence in itself is not that important for the meaning of the movie. What really is trying to be shown in this movie is this outrage towards the post modernistic society and how it can affect you. How to cite Consequences of Postmodernism in the Movie, Papers

Individual Leadership Style & Behavior-Free-Samples for Students

Question: Discuss about the Individual Leadership Style and Behavior. Answer: Introduction In the current years, leadership strategies follow most effective new approaches in managing employees along with organizations. Leadership styles are practiced by individuals as it has drastic impact on employee performance. Distinct leadership styles are employed that can fit with employees based on empowerment, directions and decision making power (Antoniadis and House 2013). The objective of this paper is to recognize the individual leadership style factors that impact leadership styles and its impact on banking sector employee behavior. The paper will also explain the impact of individual leadership styles on the workforce. Moreover, based on the leadership model analysis used by the individual within banking sector certain actions will be recommended that can enhance leadership behavior of employees within the sector. Factors Impacting Choice of Leadership Style and Behavior in Workplace Situations Every situation is distinct and a leadership style is implemented within a situation will not be applicable in another. The leader must employ judgment in deciding suitable leadership style required in each situation (Bormann and Abrahamson 2014). A situational initiative to leadership recognizes four leadership styles including: Persuasive Authoritative Consultative Democratic In context of key frontline supervisory leadership role in banking sector leadership is segmented in two manners. The first being the day of working within banking sector that encompass directing training individual groups and work and another one is increasing response to emergency situations (Carter and Greer 2013). Aspects common to both situations that can impact leadership style and behavior that can be used include individuals involved and competence level, task nature, supervision level required by task, the place where tasks must be performed, the way task is performed and associated priority level. In case of an emergency certain factors that must be considered includes: Time available for task accomplishment Nature and level of involved risks In a situation of routine aspects of job working patterns and activities might be predictable fairly and so several styles and behaviors can be suitable based on points mentioned above. However, democratic consultative and perusable leadership styles might be employed in equal measure (Tyson 2013). In such context authoritative style might be used when discipline and performance issues arise. Reasons for Leadership Style or Behavior Have Positive or Negative Impact on Individual or Group Behavior Employed leadership style should address situation needs along with taking into consideration concerned individuals; a leader must understand that both negative and positive impacts must be considered (Hinojosa et al. 2014). In deciding appropriate leadership style for a situation, the leader must remain aware of likely unintended consequences in consideration to team if style is unsuitable for a situation or associated people. Authoritative leadership style involves leaders to make every decision and indicate the team the things that can be suitable in time focused risk sensitive conditions, specifically where the team are not trained properly and does not have understanding of a situation. Positives of effective implementation of this style include speed of action, purpose clarity and doubt removal considering the aspects needed of individuals and teams (Johnston and Marshall 2016). In improper implementation certain negative behavior of employees can arise such as confidence loss, de-motivation, issues with morale and team that does not participate actively and stays relied on the leader (Roueche, Baker III and Rose 2014). Persuasive leadership style involves salesmanship in which leader sells decisions and objectives to team through explaining decision reasons. In such scenario, the manager might attain positives like being observed by team to identify their importance and indicating concern for them along with attaining buy in from individuals and team (Kroll and Vogel 2014). If implemented inappropriately, this leadership style can reveal negative results as not all leaders attain ability to sell decisions convincingly and implementation of this style might make leaders appear weak in case they constantly try to justify or sell their decisions. Democrative style facilitates the leaders to make the team develop and decide actions that might be suitable for a team that performs at high level (Tyssen, Wald and Spieth 2013). Leadership functions can be shared with the group and individuals that has increased consideration in decision making along with implementation of procedures and actions. Advantages of such style encompass securing team commitment to decisions along with their implementation that can facilitate team and individual development with enhanced morale (Lussier and Achua 2015). Disadvantages of improper implementation of this style considers that in constitution of unclear team roles, this can result in communication failures. There can also be a likely responsible ability solution if no individual is responsible for making decisions (Tate and Yang 2015). As an individual, the role in the banking sector is one of the major tasks that the person is involved in evaluation of the command skills of people those act as initial incident commanders. The results of current evaluations have signified vita training needs for the personnel group and the individual have implemented a consultation process among the group and senior management for recognizing suitable ways to correct such situation (Wallace, de Chernatony and Buil 2013). Understanding Leadership Qualities and Reviewing Individual Leadership Potential and Qualities Evaluating Own Leadership Behaviors and Potential Aligning Leadership Model In the first day of the course a self assessment task was carried out by the individual that identified leadership styles aligning The Tannenbaum and Schmidt Model of situational leadership (Carter 2013). Evaluation of individual results from evaluation evidence of underuse of democratic style along with an intention to favor persuasive leadership style was recognized. This revealed that consultative and authoritative styles remain in accordance with the individuals peers in the course. In such situation, the individual accepts the evaluation results in consideration to persuasive style and is identified that it is likely that application of democratic leadership style can be ignored (Van Wart 2017). The individual therefore needs to recognize practical ways in addressing concerns raised to make sure that the individual regularly implements suitable leadership style to certain situations and employees involved. The individual must regularly evaluate his persuasive style in consideration to democratic and consultative styles (Christensen, Mackey and Whetten 2014). Comments attained from someone managed by the individual in relation to his leadership style are that attaining set targets, the individual is prone to not associating them in case such targets change that might result in suggesting real under use of consultative leadership style. A co-workers with whom the individual works closely has suggested that he indicates a tendency towards tunnel vision that might correspond to implied support towards persuasive style along with the individuals desire to make people listen to made decisions (Deinert et al. 2015). Line manager of the individual has commented positively on the individuals capability to use several leadership styles as per situational requirements and the manager identified persuasive style preference in the individual through evaluating self-assessment task (Ward 2016). The existing management culture in the banking sector is relied on results attained against previously agreed yearly personal development reviews (Northouse 2015). The reality of such situation is that such service tends to value output volume over the results quality along with old management consultant favorite 80/20 rule is generally misquoted. Till the results are attained and no personal issues take place, the applied leadership style is not relevant. From the individual personal observations, authoritative style is highly prevalent in service in several situations that might be because of increased workloads, capacity issues and time pressures (Epitropaki and Martin 2013). Such factors result in a situation in which authoritative style turns out to be attractive as considering face value this seems quick and simple. Suitable Actions in Improving Individual Leadership Behavior Aligning Leadership Model The suitable actions for improving individual behavior are explained under: Recognizing traits Setting objectives Consulting Involving more personnel earlier Considering persuasive style and under using democratic style Attaining regular feedback from someone the individual manages and works with along with the line manager Setting of target and informing Considering tunnel vision and giving preference to persuasive leadership style Ensuring broader situational awareness along with regular open team meetings that can facilitate two way communication Conclusion The objective of this paper is to recognize the factors that impact leadership styles and its impact on banking sector Bahrain employee behavior. It is gathered from the paper that in banking sector Bahrain the leader strongly believes in teamwork to be most common approach to work that impacts choice of leadership style. Certain employees that wish to instill employees self learning management work importance can work better as transformational leaders. From the leadership model analysis of Banking sector Bahrain, it has been gathered that it is dealing with issues regarding project implementation and making such issues manageable will necessitate the companys leadership model to get restructured that will increase the control level on team work. Seminar Article on Cystic Fibrosis

The article is a thorough treatise on the dreaded disease ‘Cystic Fibrosis’ which occurs due to a genetic defect, largely in people of Caucasian origin, although it is not exclusive for this particular race (3). It includes systematically collected information about the disease from past as well as the latest reviews available at Medline, Google Scholar and the Cochrane Library, besides those from Johns Hopkins University in the US.Advertising We will write a custom critical writing sample on Seminar Article on Cystic Fibrosis specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The historical prevalence, therapeutic interventions employed for its treatment, the recently identified mechanisms of the disease have been thoroughly elaborated upon and the latest guidelines for handling the disease have been suggested. The treatise follows a lucid, easy to read style which is comprehensible even for a non technical person, except for certain sections which explain the genetic basis of the disease. The flow of the article is built in an appropriate manner by first elucidating the mechanisms of the disease, followed by the latest diagnostic methods employed to detect its presence, the symptoms and clinical manifestations, the effects in different organ systems of the body and finally rounded off by treatment modalities available to handle its various manifestations. The article closes with a peek at the latest endeavours in research on cystic fibrosis. The article however, has more academic than clinical relevance as it is too elaborate to focus on one particular facet of the disease. In the introduction, the author has highlighted the contribution of research on cystic fibrosis, which has enabled a person suffering from this disease to have a better life expectancy due to the recent advances in diagnosis and treatment. The disease aetiology has been explained extensively with explanations about the genetic defect which p recipitates it. The cause of the disease has been attributed due to mutation in the gene that encodes for the CFTR (cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator) protein which is expressed in many epithelial and blood cells (3). The finer molecular mechanisms, mutations and effects of CFTR are tabulated on the first page with appropriate detail. According to the author, CFTR primarily functions as a chloride channel besides it multifarious functions in the regulation of sodium transportation and ATP channels. Despite the occurrence of more than 1500 mutations in the CFTR gene, class II mutation has been identified as the most common in European and North American populations (3).Advertising Looking for critical writing on health medicine? Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Manifestations of cystic fibrosis are variable depending upon the particular mutation and specific organ systems are affected accordingly. The variatio ns are so extensive that symptoms and characteristics of the disease can vary, even between siblings. Polymorphisms in non-CFTR genes and gene-gene interactions have been suggested as the basis of these variations. According to the author, a number of hypotheses have been suggested for the occurrence of cystic fibrosis, out of which four have been elaborated in the article. The first hypothesis suggests that loss of inhibition of epithelial sodium channels results in excessive sodium and water reabsorption with the resultant dehydration of airway surface materials. This results in drying up of the airway mucous membranes and the formation of plaques which harbour pathogenic bacteria. Another hypothesis, the high-salt hypothesis suggests that due to the absence of functional CFTR, excess sodium and chloride retained in the airway surface liquid increases concentration of chloride in periciliary layers which does not allow innate antibiotic molecules to function. The third hypothesis suggests a dysregulation of the host inflammatory response is responsible for the characteristic molecular changes observed in cystic fibrosis. Yet another hypothesis suggests a primary predisposition to infection as the main cause due to the defective CFTR gene (3). After this thorough introduction the author shifts the focus onto diagnosis of cystic fibrosis in which investigations are recommended to be initiated if the characteristic symptoms are observed in any child or adult. The general symptoms include family history of the disease, salty-tasting skin, clubbing of fingers and toes, cough accompanied with sputum, hypochloraemic metabolic alkalosis and isolation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacterium from the airway (3). Chloride concentration in sweat is a good marker for the diagnosis of cystic fibrosis. The author has comprehensively tabulated a list of diseases which might give a false positive/negative result in the sweat test and hence are vital for making a differential dia gnosis. Diagnosis in infants and children can also be made by observing characteristic signs and symptoms as well as with the assistance of molecular biology techniques such as CFTR mutation detection and measurement of immunoreactive trypsinogen in blood spots, particularly in infants (3).Advertising We will write a custom critical writing sample on Seminar Article on Cystic Fibrosis specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Clinical manifestations of the disease have been thoroughly explained in the following paragraphs which are addressed according to the organ systems involved. Gastrointestinal symptoms include obstruction in the gastrointestinal tract, pancreatic insufficiency, steatorrhoea and generalized malnutrition (3). The displayed symptoms include greasy stools, flatulence, abdominal bloating and poor weight gain. Biliary cirrhosis and jaundice are also observed in some cases. The respiratory system is also profoundly affected by cystic fibrosis and manifestations are in the form of chronic airway infection, bronchiectasis, gas trapping, hypoxaemia and hypercarbia (3). Characteristic bacterial infections with specific organisms are observed in the pulmonary system which includes P. aeruginosa, S. aureus and methycillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA) (3). Besides these major system infections, endocrine disturbances are observed in the patients and men particularly suffer from azoospermia leading to infertility. Treatment approaches available and recommended have been comprehensively described in the article and include primarily the modes employed to handle pulmonary infection and enhance lung functioning. Lung function tests involve elaborate procedures and equipment which has to be sterile. Moreover, a patient in acute respiratory distress may not be able to comply with the demands of such tests which involve breathing through equipment for a particular duration and with some effort. Inhaled hypertonic sal ine, macrolide antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen have particularly been recommended. Corticosteroids have been contraindicated in the treatment of cystic fibrosis due to their prominent side effects which can deteriorate the condition. However in emergency situations they may have to be resorted to depending upon the level of distress being experienced by a patient at a particular moment. Airway clearance techniques currently available have been recommended with the final resort as lung transplantation in cases where there have been pulmonary exacerbations due to this disease. Maintenance of appropriate nutrition is vital in patients with cystic fibrosis and supplement use, specifically pancreatic enzymes have been recommended to aid the digestive process. Regular maintenance of BMR (basal metabolic rate) has been suggested for patients so that appropriate corrective measure can be employed in a timely manner. The article has great pertinence for Ireland in p articular, where the incidence of Cystic fibrosis is the highest in the world (4). The Cystic Fibrosis Registry of Ireland (CFRI) maintains a registry of all the patients diagnosed with the disease which has been made online from July, 2002 (2).Advertising Looking for critical writing on health medicine? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Around 30-40 children with the genetic defect are born in Ireland each year with a very poor life expectancy (15-25 years) (1). There is therefore a need for providing the most appropriate therapy at the right stages in such patients to make their life comfortable. The article covers most recent guidelines for treatment comprehensively which can be adopted depending upon the clinical symptoms encountered. The article rounds off with the current advances in gene therapy due to the development of advanced molecular biology techniques, which might yield some new therapeutic intervention strategy to handle this dreaded disease. In Ireland, a number of deficiencies in the current health services exist which complicate the treatment of cystic fibrosis. These include inadequate staff, lack of as well as below par physical resources and deficiencies in provision of adult services (4). These issues need to be handled appropriately if any meaningful therapeutic measures as suggested in this s tudy can be actually employed. Bibliography Annual Report, 2007. Web.
